The Small Business Spotlight is a free monthly platform that is available to any SFN Band member owned business currently in operation. Each month, a different business will be able to showcase their product and/or services, how they started and share what their future business aspirations are.
NOTE: Each participating business is independently owned and operated by a Saugeen First Nation#29 Band Member.

When or how did you realize you wanted to start your own business?
“I have always had a real passion for jewellery, so I decided to pursue a career in this field”
How long have you been in business?
“I have been a Silversmith for 15 years”
What products or services do you offer?
“I offer a Native Totem Pole Jewelry Line; it is a 10-piece collection that features interchangeable animals that can be customized to build your own Totem Pole. I also offer custom wedding rings, signet rings and corporate orders made in Sterling silver or gold. I teach silversmithing classes, 1 - 3-day classes for individuals or groups. For more advance students I offer an 8-week course, 1 class for 8 weeks. This course allows students to complete 2 projects and students will get to try a wide range of silversmith techniques. Wedding Ring Course, couples will be able to design their own wedding rings.”
What has been the biggest challenge of starting your own business?
“The Startup cost and getting my jewelry line out there”
What has been your biggest reward?
“Seeing the end result when a product is finished. There is such a sense of pride and accomplishment when you finish polishing a piece of jewelry that you made with your own hands”
What are your future goals for your business?
“I look forward to adding more pieces to my Totem Pole collection. I would like to expand into more retail locations. And be able to Tour all the Pow Wows”
